The Laboratory and Clinical Research Institute for Pain was established in 2011 under the Department of Anaesthesiology with support from the Faculty Development Fund of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong. It is a pioneering interdisciplinary academic platform to support and nurture both basic science and clinical pain research in Hong Kong. 

There is an increasing awareness and recognition of pain disorders and the need for therapeutic intervention in various medical disciplines. Consequently, there is a need for a knowledge exchange platform to facilitate cooperation among scientists, clinicians and healthcare providers who are interested in pain research.
