About Anaesthesiology



Welcome to the Department of Anaesthesiology at the University of Hong Kong and Queen Mary Hospital.

Our department is committed to providing clinical excellence in perioperative care as well as the training of future anaesthesiologists and scientists. The range of our services include

We aim to provide the best quality and safest perioperative care to our patients. Queen Mary Hospital is a tertiary referral centre and each year our Department administers more than 10,000 anaesthetics, delivers care to more than 4,000 pain patients, and obstetric services for 5000 deliveries. We cover virtually all sub specialty fields, including organ transplantation, neuroanaesthesia, regional anaesthesia and paediatrics.

Research led by department members covers areas of pain medicine, ischaemia/reperfusion injury, coagulation, intravenous anaesthesia and anaesthetic pharmacology. We have a well equipped laboratory with postgraduate students from Hong Kong, China, USA, Canada and Taiwan. We are actively involved in various clinical trials and community service.

Our postgraduate training is fully accredited by the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. There are fellowships available in various subspecialty anaesthesia fields.
